Lauren Boebert backlash: Democrats, others livid with Colorado lawmaker over nightclub tweet
Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado drew a backlash after providing her condolences to these killed at a nightclub capturing in her dwelling state.
Lawmakers rebuked her in unusually blunt phrases after the Colorado Republican tweeted in regards to the late Saturday tragedy that left 5 useless and 25 others injured.
“The information out of Colorado Springs is completely terrible,” Ms. Boebert wrote Sunday. “This morning the victims and their households are in my prayers. This lawless violence wants to finish and finish shortly.”
The response was swift. Democratic lawmakers and others pointed to Ms. Boebert’s previous feedback evaluating sure transgender insurance policies and college instruction involving LGTB individuals to “grooming.”
“Take your youngsters to CHURCH, not drag bars,” she tweeted earlier within the 12 months.
Chasten Buttigieg, husband of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, scolded Ms. Boebert over her weekend tweet.
“You encourage this kind of hatred. Get off Twitter and begin trying inward,” he tweeted.
Rep.-elect Robert Garcia, a California Democrat who’s overtly homosexual, was much more blunt.
“Heartbroken in regards to the rising hate in opposition to trans folks and anti-LGBTQ violence. This mass capturing in Colorado is horrific and devastating,” he wrote. “And I’m livid that members of Congress like Boebert have the [expletive] audacity to say something after they unfold this hate consistently.”
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, New York Democrat, accused Ms. Boebert of elevating anti-LGBTQ sentiment whereas blocking “even the commonest sense gun security legal guidelines.”
“You don’t get to ‘ideas and prayers’ your method out of this. Look inward and alter,” Ms. Ocasio-Cortez wrote.
