ATLANTA — A Clayton County Democrat resigned from the Georgia Home of Representatives, triggering a March particular election, based on a proclamation issued Monday by Gov. Brian Kemp.

Rep. Mike Glanton, of Jonesboro, served 14 years within the Home in two separate stints. The Military veteran and minister stepped down days after being sworn in for an eighth time period.

Kemp set the particular election for March 21. Candidates from all events will run in opposition to one another, with a runoff later if no candidate earns a majority. A runoff may imply the district goes unrepresented for the present session, scheduled to finish March 29.

Glanton was first elected to the Home in 2006 and served two phrases earlier than an unsuccessful run for state Senate. Voters selected him to return to the Home in 2012, and he had remained a member of that chamber since then. Glanton received reelection in November with 89% of the vote.
